The art of celebrating 125 years of Magritte in 4 corners of Brussels.

The year 2023 marks a turning point in the world of surrealism, marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of the famous Belgian artist René Magritte. To celebrate this major event, the City of Brussels, the Magritte Foundation and the Magritte Museum have teamed up with French street artist Julien de Casabianca to offer a unique surrealist journey through the streets of Brussels.

What do Julien Casabianca and René Magritte have in common? Both like to divert objects by moving them into unexpected contexts to create a strange environment. By transforming the city into a living canvas, the street artist aims to make masterpieces of art history accessible to all.

Monumental collages from Magritte’s masterpieces now adorn the facades of the city’s most emblematic landmarks, offering an unprecedented tribute to the master of Belgian surrealism. The streets of Brussels have become the stage for an exceptional artistic celebration, where Magritte’s creations come to life on a monumental scale. These artistic installations, visible from several points in the city, transform the urban space into an open-air gallery, delighting passers-by and inviting deeper reflection on art and creativity.

“Sur les traces de Magritte” is more than just an exhibition. Indeed, interactive elements have been integrated into the collages, inviting viewers to participate in the artistic experience. Panels allow passers-by to discover information about Magritte’s original works and explore the surrealist concepts behind them, making this an educational journey for all audiences.

This open-air exhibition allows everyone to discover René Magritte’s most famous works, such as “The Man in the Bowler Hat”, “The Schoolmaster” and “The Happy Giver”. Stroll through the streets and walk in the footsteps of Magritte, who himself lived in Brussels for over 25 years.

Live the magic of surrealism through this unique immersive experience, which will be remembered as a memorable tribute to one of the greatest Belgian artists of all time.
