Description

A year before his death in 1966, Magritte painted "La Décalcomanie" for an acquaintance of his – the baron Chaïm Perelman. The painting would be stolen from Perelman’s house in Brussels, in August 1979, and would only come to be rediscovered in London, May 1992, by Scotland Yard. Undoubtedly, one of René Magritte’s most renowned works, Décalcomanie tries to reveal the invisible by contrasting himself to the outside world – the artist’s existence within the outer world contrasted to the artist’s existence within his inner world.
